Hearing that old Billy Paul cut, playing in my head...

Am I Black enough for ya?
    Did I remember every verse
to Lift Every Voice and Sing
    without having to rehearse?
Am I Black enough to give you
five on the Black hand side
with a clear difference between the hue of
my fingers and that of my palm, you decide
Am I Black enough for ya?
What about my hair? Have no fear,
    for if I remember correctly,
    I haven't had a perm in only a year
Although that may speak more, I guess
of the challenge of combing through hair
than my pro Black stance, but I digress
Based upon what little you know of me
you think I wouldn't be down for the revolution
and more interested in preserving my
    own personal, self serving, evolution
I wonder how you would react, and
    exactly what you would do
if and when the revolutionary line
started forming, I slid right into the queue
    even quicker, than you?
Am I Black enough for ya?
See, often it's those little things that
    mean more than grand displays
like not kicking our brethren when they're down
understanding that life can put our minds in a daze
or not plotting against a sister or brother because
you think there's something they've achieved
that you would desperately want to have, but
haven't quite, as of yet, received
Am I Black enough for ya?
Perhaps I never truly will be
But that's okay, cause one thing is
for sure, I'm Black enough for me
and that's blacker than even your
third eye will probably ever see

First of all, I gotta say that whenever I see you've dropped another one on us, I get excited. Then the title of this was intriguing. Now the piece itself: outstanding! Girl, you are the bomb. Mad love for this one. :toast:

"First of all, I gotta say that whenever I see you've dropped another one on us, I get excited." Gempis, there is no way for me to really convey what that means to me, so let me just say, that I am honored that you view me that way. And thank you for "getting" the meaning that I was trying to get across sista poet.
