    ....like in the movies
when the guy finally gets the girl
    against the odds
    at all cost

    like in the romance novels
    when life keeps throwing
    daggers and darts and
    hollow point bullets
    come hurling
    creating
    circumstances that seem
    too hard to come out
    from under

    like shakespeare and his
    tragedies and the comedy
    of errors that happen
    to people everywhere around
    the world

    but like in the movies

i don't want you to be the
    tragic guy
and i don't want to be
    the good-bye girl

i see movies that ***** up my
    heart and the tears start
    and i flow into dreams
    that take me in your
arms and never let me go

    i love you
like juliette never dreamed of loving romeo
more than cleopatra loved marc antony
    beyond josephine's devotion to napoleon
stronger than anne bolyn loved henry VIII,
knowing he was gonna kill her ***...

i love you harder than Lady Day loved Louis McCay
i love you like any self-respecting junkie loves they junk
i love you better than George Clinton loves p-funk

all of it makes me wanna die
whenever i see a love scene on the big screen
    ...i remember why

    you are my happy ending
and why i’ll be my whole life spending
    waiting
    wanting
    your arms enfolding
    me

    like in the movies

You quoted a lot of classical study and history buddy! In every way you display it, it still remains to be highly elevated.

Alyce, this is the spark that ignites the flame of passion in many a romantic heart. You have constructed a heartfelt examination of celluloid love and lost and how it affects the way we view or see or even allow ourself to feel love and to love. Only to cast it aside and rewrite it in your own words, shape it, and mold it to fit your own soul; your own desires of what love should be for you as an individiual. Then you end it with "like in the movies", thereby bringing us full circle.

As always, very lovely. And although I love the entire poem, this stanza alone is my favorite:
    "i love you
like juliette never dreamed of loving romeo
more than cleopatra loved marc antony
    beyond josephine's devotion to napoleon
stronger than anne bolyn loved henry VIII,
knowing he was gonna kill her ***...."

Now that is some passionate, powerful, love.

    Who said romance was dead?
