Terrible, yes. Intentional, no. She was a part of a chain of events that led to the deaths of 5 people. But she didn't pull a trigger and shoot an unarmed handcuffed man being held down with a knee to the shoulder. And, of course, she's not a white cop either. If this were a civil case she would have had to have been proven 'grossly negligent' to be held liable in California. She was, according to the video, sideswiped by another car and that evidently caused her to lose control. No crime there. The crime is in leaving the scene. And for that she should have been punished. But 36 years in and 14 on parole is overdoing it for an accidental act. She does not pose that much of a danger to society. It's not like she has a pathological obsession with causing fatal accidents. Or even a history of irresponsible behavior. And 8 years for her mother is also overdoing it. In my opinion.
