What was our political system?? It wasn't Capitalism, It wasn't Communism nor Socialism. The ancestors followed a system called Communalism. Now many people TRIED to compare this with Communsim when in fact, Communism was grafted out of Communalism however, they are different from each other.

What's the difference between Communalism and Communism?

Communalism denotes a way of life that is distinctly African. This way of life can be glimpsed in the collectivist structure of African societies in which:

1) different communities enjoy (near) unfettered independence from one another;

2) communities manage their own affairs and are for all practical purposes self-accounting and self-governing;

3) every individual without exception takes part, either directly or indirectly, in the running of community affairs at all levels.

Leadership developed on the basis of family and kinship ties woven around the elders; it was conferred only by age, a factor which runs deep in communalism. In Africa, old age was-and still often is equated with possession of wisdom and rational judgment.

Communalism is original. Communism is grafted. The difference is the same as the difference between the black man (original man) and the white man (grafted/non-original man).

Our people practiced communalism, while caucasians developed capitalism and then devised a system to refute capitalism. Communism is a response to capitalism.

Communism is a system or a doctrine based on the liberation of the proletariat (the working class of the ninteenth century).
The proletariat originated in the industrial revolution which took place in England in the second half of the eighteenth century and has since then been repeated in all the so-called civilized countries of the world. This industrial revolution was brought about by the invention of the steam-engine, various spinning machines, the power loom, and a whole series of other mechanical devices.

So again, communalism is not a response to anything, while communism is a response to capitalism.

Communalism was originated by the original man and communism was cooked up by the caucasian.

The beautiful thing about Communalism is it doesn't screw people over unlike Capitalism.

Very informative post Pharoah Jah.
Very important train of thought.
It is capitalism that the american born Afrikan is chained to.
Though 8 out of 10 suffers not knowing it.
It is the wall that stands between the american born Afrikan and his culture, history, home, heritage and people.
The ones who feel a profound attachment to america in actuality suffer an unhealthy attachment to capitalism not america. It is the luxury, gluttony, sloth and drunkenness of western culture that some will have the hardest time turning away from. Some never will.
Communalism
I will seek knowledge of that concept as a result of your post and I have faith that knowledge will be beneficial.

this is all correct. but understand that aspects of capitalism ARE african.

- we do believe in profit.
- we do believe in starting business.
- we did have currency, not all sales occur through bartering

in addition futher thoughts:

- we did have elected officials and many chiefs were elected to serve on councils of elders.
- we did (do) believe in divine kingship.
- we did vote by concensus.
- we did have versions of a bill of rights.
- we did have laws.
