Africa : Africa's Cultural Void and the Curse of Alien Religions and Cultures

Hmm... there are some interesting arguments being brought up that can't be ignored.

Africans and African Americans do have problems with unity, whether it's putting on ethnic group over another or valuing a certain look over another. Different reasons exist for why that happens, but overall it is still ignorant and results in the same consequence: being more prime for external forces to take advantage of us.

External forces often times don't have our interests at heart, but we do have to look at the strife we have among ourselves which causes some to want to partake in the external culture. On the same token, though, we can't necessarily run to an outside force thinking that their religion, culture or race will solve our problems. They won't because they're human too with the SAME issues we have 1, and 2, many times their motives for being there in the first place were off. Demonizing a religious system that is still a part of us is not the solution.

As far as whether Christianity and Islam were originally African... if they were then fine. But the way that it is practiced now is harmful and not progressive. There are churches on every corner in some African American neighborhoods, but we still have the same problems... even worse now. OOW births, parental abandonment, foster care systems being filled with OUR children, drinking/drugs addictions, jealousy and disunity. Christianity condemns all of these things, but despite its strong presence in the black community it has not eliminated them.

It is unrealistic to expect people to convert to ATR, but we should at least respect them and find a way to incorporate more spirituality into whatever religious styem we want to adhere to.

"Demonizing a religious system that is still a part of us is not the solution."

I agree. However, what are ATR proponents doing to reverse the trend of which they view as problemmatic? I read this article and also watched the program "Battle for Souls" which focused on the conflict between Chrisitans and Muslims in Nigeria. It pointed out that over 300 million Africans now claim Christianity as their faith. Predicting that number to more than double in the next 15 years to over 600 million. Pentacostalism is experiencing rapid growth in Nigeria especially. So, while ATRs are becoming more popular in the Diaspora because the church is in decline, the opposite is true in the Motherland. This evangelical movement is lead by Bishop Oyodepo's Faith Tabernacle which has Nigerian missionaries in over 30 African countries.

There is nothing one can do at the moment other than proclaim their religion to those who are willing to listen.

Christianity is a religion that in its orthodox form tells its members anything but it will lead a person to hell. How can you do anything if someone truly believes this? Revival of the ATR will lie in the hands of ATR practictioners AND open-minded Christians.

But in the meantime African Americans and Africans will just have to find a way to put aside the religious differences for the common good. It's happened before with the civil rights movement and the Million Man March... it can happen again. Besides, one's own individual spiritual path is not important in the scheme of things... it's only when their path hurts others that it becomes a problem.
