Hope that your not posing the x president as an example of Dominicans. Calling him the Burro, was an insult to a fine animal. Not only was he racist but also stupid!
I don't generalize, in fact I've said so in one of my posting, so the guilt game is not going to work. Something that did pissed me off, was the lack of backlash from everyone, including the media on this particular incident.
Never anywhere said color blind, just that its not the same as in the USA. As almost everyone can find black or white in their own family, si o no
Not the same as in the USA? That's like saying that you could be pregnant in the US and not in DR. Racism is racism, period, anywhere. And yes, some can find black or a mixture, not white. So what's your point?
ERES BACHILLER, delgada, color claro, buena presencia, referencia, de 18 a 40 años. Persona mayor sola, necesita asistente y compañía en su tienda y residencia. RD$5,000, comida, dormida, vehículo, etc. Inf. 788-5507, 533-4252.
Would you like to translate bienamor or should I?
you never did so here
Wanting a educated, thin, person with good color, and presence, references required, 18 to 40 years. Single older person, needs assistant and company in their store and home. RD$5,000, food, room, vehicle.
Hummm, I'm afraid my translation is a bit different (minorly, though). Here's mine:
ARE YOU A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE, slender, light colored, good presence, with references, 18 to 40 years old. Elderly person needs assistant and companinship at her store and residence. RD$5,000, food, lodging, vehicle, etc. Inf. 788-5507, 533-4252.
Really suprised that they did not specify the sex also? Was this the whole ad? What Major company are you talking about, because the age range is great and no request for experience. Looks more like someone wanting a personal assistant, not just a normal employee.
Reminds me of the one the other day that asked for a girl/woman 18 to 23 with good presence call xxx-xxxx for information. Kind of wondered what they were advertising for??
Nice try, but this is the norm. In fact, the fact that this is a job that only requires a high school diploma, goes to show that access is fairly limited for black Dominicans. There are black Dominicans that have made it against all odds, but I'm interested in their stories. I know of few.
Don't forget the mother that refers to her son as mi negro. And this is all Dominicans not just the ones that class themselves as white. todo los gente tiene negro detrás del oído. Everybody has black behind the ear.
And what's wrong with a mother referring to her son as "mi negro"? It's her black child. Don't try to twist things around, one thing has nothing to do with the other. Calling a black Dominican "negrito come coco (coconut eating blackie)", is not the same as a mother calling her son "mi negro (my black son)". Negro detras de las orejas is plenty used in a derrogatory manner in the DR.
Hey bienamor, have you ever heard of a Dominican college professor, writer and poet called Blas Jimenez? Probably not. Probably not. I bet you many African Americans have. In the Dr he is maligned and goes largely unrecognized (except for extremely educated people who recognized greatness when they see it). Wonder why he is not adored by many Dominicans? BECAUSE HE DOESN’T WRITE ABOUT YOUR MOTHERLAND SSSSSPAIN (I wrote Spain with my Andalusian lissssp) he he he.
When did you move the USA and approx age?
What does this has to do with anything? I hope you're not like these Dominicans over there that go on and on about Dominicans in the US, referring to them as Dominican Yorks, and act as if we don't have say. We have $1.6 billion reasons to have a say (That's the Dominican contribution to the GDP in the form of remittances, I'll give everyone the percentage it constitutes later). I recall one incident in the Dominican Republic where my uncle had to publicly get a hair cut because he had an Afro. This happened in the 70's during Balaguer's regime. He even had a Dominican central figure in the Afro-Dominican movement assasinated for his activities. Any time anyone tries to assert their negritude in the DR, they are disparaged, maligned, insulted, and ridiculed as in the case of Blas Jimenez and others.
The reason why this happens is because the Dominican elites benefit from this status quo. We all know who are the elites, don't we? It's no different than Colombia, Mexico, and until recently, Venezuela.
What I do have a problem with are these Dominicans that come to the US and begin disparaging and desrespecting African Americans. I heard Dominicans speak and anyone listening would have thought they were white. I avoid those Dominicans at all cost. These are the same Dominicans that if I was to form a political alliance with African Americans would call me a traitor (god, how I fantasize about this happening to me, I would take such a giant **** on whomever did that to me).
Bienamor, you're welcome to stay, but I know your type. You'll probably object to BET, as something that black people don't deserve because there is no WET, which of course there is (NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX). This is something a white would say.
I think you're at the wrong site !!!
