Black People : African Americans vs. Africans, vs. Caribbean: Do We Have a Problem?

This is in no way, shape or form a bash against you Fireman but that has got to be the most culturally dividing asinine article to date. Blavity has truly stooped to a new level with this fishwrap. This whole pot stirring hateful crap is not about race, it's about nationalities. IMHO Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar also known as Cardi B was born, raised, schooled and worked in NYC to a Dominican father and and a Castilian/Trinidadian mother so I dare say African is out, Afro American as well. Dominicans have always been comfortable with their Afro/Latino roots Although most say some of the other "So-called" blends except Castilians and possibly Trinidadians because most Trinidadians immigrated from India or Pakistan have roots in Mother Africa but factually it is what is, not what some people want this to be. No matter who you are or where you came from cuts no ice with "The other man" because if you're darker then him you're a n****r pure and simple. Dark complected Hindis with jet black straight hair, dark complected Panamanians and Cubans felt that sting of truth too. Personally I feel Cardi B has no esteem issue because she's been around more Blacks in NYC then anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere so if she does possess some manner of confusion, disassociation, superiority or outright denial of her lifestyle and the positive or negative effects of being in close proximity to Blacks that's on her but I read her blowback and I believe what she says is just how she feels. I see Jealous, hateful detractors are still stirring things up so let's find out.

You decide.

To tell you the truth, I don't know that much about her. Maybe I was judging my opinion of what I have experienced with other Caribbean people, especially DR. My brother was married to a dark skinned DR. Most in her family were very light skinned. They didn't want to associate with us darker skinned "Negros" or many of us African Americans either.
As for race vs. nationalities, many nationalities who have African roots don't want to recognize their African heritage or blackness and those that do often don't want to identify with African Americans. And for various reasons. And sometimes I can see why.

I'm glad to see that Cardi B has a black consciousness. Because many of her ethnic heritage and mix don't.

Don't sell yourself short Fireman, you are much more astute than you give yourself credit for. As for your opinion that's your right and opinions are just that, opinions, they don't have to be factual as they are just what a person feels about any given person or situation. Having been born a raised in NYC I have enjoyed the company of many many people in the racial spectrum, however most of my best friendships were with other Black Americans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, West Indians and EYEtalians, very few Irish who live to get puking drunk on St. Patrick's Day and not get locked up since like 70% of NYPD are Irish drunks themselves and zero Jews who call us Swartzas and WASP who sniff their noses at everybody else GOD forbid their MTA/MN train from Greenwich Ct. is 5 minutes late getting into GCT.

I have lived in NYC. I was just pointing out that not all nationalities of the same racial identity always see things the same. Sometimes they don't understand each other as it often relates to the different experiences each group has experienced. As it relates to blacks and people of color, racism has made us unable to really come together as one. Sure we have individuals in each group who socialize with one another and become good friends, but on the whole that is not the case. There is still too much stereotypical bias ignorance among us. We need more coming together as a group.

I mentioned DR and their preference for light-skinned people of color. Heck, we have that among AA in this country. Louisiana and the New Orleans area use to be notorious about that. There were even some black schools who didn't want hardly any dark-skinned blacks. I remember when nearly every black beauty queen had to be light-skinned.

Oh, while I was in NYC, I got along with Italians (they were the most friendly of the Europeans), Irish, a few WASP, not to many Jews but I dated a Jewish girl. I got along with PR, Caribbean Islanders (I had more friends among them than any of the others), and Africans.
