Dr. Austin W. Curtis
At Dr. George Washington Carver's insistence, his "miracle rubbing oil" was named for Dr. A. W. Curtis who was often referred to as "Baby Carver" for his own notable achievements.
A Little History:
1935 -- Dr. Curtis received a fellowship to work with Dr. George Washington Carver at Tuskegee Institute for the next eight years researching peanut products and sweet potato starch.
1943 -- Dr. Carver died and Dr. Curtis helped to establish the George Washington Carver Research Foundation and the Carver Museum at Tuskegee Institute.
1944 -- Dr. Curtis moved to Detroit to organize Curtis Laboratories, and created 60 different products made from natural and organic sources....

Dr. Austin W. Curtis, founder of A. W. Curtis Laboratories in Detroit, died Nov. 5 at his home in Culver City, California.
Curtis, who retired in 2001, relocated from Detroit to live with his
daughter in California, where he resided until his death.
The Curtis Museum in Detroit was established to recognize and promote the
historical contribution of Dr. Curtis and his relationship to the
historical development of Detroit's African-American community.
In 1942, Curtis accompanied Dr. George Washington Carver to Detroit for the
dedication of the George Washington Carver Cabin at Greenfield Village.
