Black students face tougher discipline in Chicago and the U.S.

African American students receive disproportionately harsher discipline than non-minorities in schools nationwide — and especially in Chicago, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Monday.

That means CPS’s African American students were five times as likely to be suspended as their white peers, relative to their presence in the overall student population. That’s the third-highest black-white suspension ratio among 20 big-city districts examined, a Chicago Sun-Times analysis of the federal data indicated.

Time to abandon the school-to-prison pipeline.

Form our own schools even if you have to start with home schooling.

I can dig it. I used to get suspended for not singing the Pledge of Allegiance in home room class. First, they only sent me to the principal's office. When they saw that wasn't working, they suspended me when i refused to even stand up. But i said that i was 'standing up' by 'sitting down'....:argue:

It wasn't until a black janitor gave me some wisdom that the matter finally got settled. He said they can't get mad at you if you stand and sing the pledge of allegiance, just put your own lyrics to it. After they heard my version, they agreed to give me a pass on the pledge and i had to stand but didn't have to sing it anymore. The only problem was that my fellow black students started doing what i was doing and soon only the white kids singing it by themselves.......lol

I too have great problems with the pledge of allegiance.

No one prior to 1892 ever pledged allegiance to a flag including the Framers.
In English Common Law, allegiance is given to the body natural of the king. Who is the "king" with regard to a flag?
How can children take a pledge of allegiance when they are unable to effect a valid contract?
The pledge of allegiance was created by a Christian socialist by the name of Francis Bellamy. I find it ironic that the people who bellow the loudest against socialism will be the first to recite a pledge authored by a socialist.

Also, you had a suit. The school can't make you recite a pledge against your will.

That might be part of the reason they finally gave in. They probably figured that sooner or later i or someone around me would have figured that out!

The crazy part was that my home room teacher wasn't even 'american'.

    - Maybe it's the 'King' in regards to the Pledge..

And i thought i was the only one to tell my kids bout pledging the flag. I even told them not to voice it. I don't think anyone understands the real reason for that flag..

Again, allegiance is to the body natural of the king or queen. Does a flag have a body natural?

Allegiance is for purposes of subjugation, obedience, and fidelity to the one in power.

Like a child to his father is a subject (or citizen) to his sovereign.

Any parent currently dealing with their child being suspended ... i'd have this article in hand when i visited the school.

I'd not let them even begin talking to me about my child's behavior, till they showed me their stats on this subject.

Don't talk to me about what my child did ... until you show me your statistics regarding the same.

I'd be one krazee Momma ... they better be glad i aint see nunna this stuff back when i was raising children.

Not that my children got suspended regularly, but i've certainly had to go to the office with them a time or two.

Man ... i'd love to be the Momma with her baby in the principal's office rite about now!

If someone needs me to stand in for 'em ... holla at yo' Gurl ... i'd love it !!!

They'd think twice before suspending another Black Baby ... i'd be suing ... something ... please ... don't talk to me!

I was elluding to a masonic oathe when i put the king in brackets. THE PLEDGE, is directly related to an initiate of the 1st degree, pledging his ALL-egiance to his brothers at all times and if that PLEDGE is broken that he receive swift justice.
