The West focuses only on slavery, but the history of Africa is so much more than a footnote to European imperialism


Toby Green
teaches Lusophone African history and culture at King's College London. His latest book, A Fistful of Shells: West Africa from the Rise of the Slave Trade to the Age of Revolution (2019), was awarded the Nayef Al-Rodhan Prize for Global Cultural Understanding and will be published in paperback in January 2020.
