I don't know why they'd print that in the newspaper if it wasn't true. Or, maybe it was in a section of the newspaper where people tell tales. I don't know.

But, I can believe it. If dogs protect family members, why wouldn't lions. I think animals have more sense than we give them. Although, I may be stretching my belief a little given the dangerousness of lions.

    It's a great story though. :D

Remember Daniel in the lions' den? It may have been a miracle from above. Very interesting story!

And some religious folks want to say animals don't have emotions, or we are so much more evolved than they are?

Though situations like this are rare they do happen, and in some cases for a longer period of time... the animal actually 'raises' the child as their own. It is fascinating how sometimes the most 'ferocious' animal shows a tender side towards protecting what it perceives to be its young.

You are correct j'hiah, actually it is forum rules to provide a link when presenting work that belongs to someone else (in this case an article). This story first ran a few days ago, here is a link:

There is one statement in the article that I doubt, that 70% of marriages in Ethiopia are by abduction. If that was really true, why would the police be after this young ladies kidnappers? They (the kidnappers) were doing what 70% of all married men in the country do...Something is missing there!
