A Thing Promised
I stood
Just beyond
The reach of the sea
Singing softly
My silent plea
With sea-soaked sand beneath my feet
And wave after wave lapping the beach
I asked forgiveness for all my sins
Purged inner sufferings from deep within
I asked of “Forever” where could they be
The joy and happiness long promised me
“Forever” smiled her infinite way
Whispering softly: “They’ll be here today”
Through storms they rode the raging sea
To make their way—here—back to me
In the midst of predators, they braved the night
Sea gulls overhead, suspended in flight
Fighting off fatigue, they contemplated their plight
As sharks swam closely…sheltered from sight
I languished
At the onset
Of forevermore
‘Til nature’s cleaver antics
Began to pour
While Joy draped me in its warm embrace
Happiness offered a soothing taste (of)
Tomorrow smiles through forever days
And clear horizons where once was haze
When twilight’s last gleam screamed “Eternity” into being
We united as one. We became best friends
