She left home for the city
With just a bus ticket and a dream
And before she walked out of the station,
She was already a pimp's scheme...

    Fresh and ripe at 16
Just the right type for the small screen
So, he started her off on 8 millimeter
Then, graduated up when the pot got sweeter
So by the time Betamax came around
She had almost done the whole town
    Of young men and old
    Her innocence sold
    For cheap, dirty home-made flicks
Bought low and sold high just for the kicks
And when VHS became the latest craze
She sometimes scratched and hungered for days
Until she could at least blow hard enough for a toke
His pockets were full and hers were broke
But no longer was she camera ready
Why, she couldn't even hold her head steady
    Without shaking
So, her life was for the taking
Every night as she walked the streets....

    Now, she'd heard of them,
But never got to see a DVD
Cuz she was dead by 43.

that age-old story of star lights and big dreams...

HAVING lived in los angeles for a number of years, i've seen my share of young women (and men) coming in, with dreams in hand, wanting to be that next big star...only to become used and abused, yet, refused to go home...to admit failure...ending up a statistic, instead. an everyday thing in the city of bright lights...where opportunity is ripe...but failure looms around every corner.

    poignant piece.

    the river floweth

    Thank you, Baller and Queen!

Yes, this story is one that is, sadly, played out EVERY DAY.
