The English language is warped and wild;
it was madly styled and then compiled.
For how words sound is not how they spell;
just look at “belle” and “citadel.”

Consider “to,” “two” and “too”;
and also “new,” “blue” and “through.”
Then pronounce “nose,” “dose” and “lose,”
along with “owes,” “gross” and “cruise.”

Think of “bird,” “curd” and bison herd;
the words don’t spell the way they’re heard.
Reflect on “comb,” “bomb” and “tomb,”
but don’t assume they will spell like “groom.”

Why shouldn’t I spell “slow” like “foe”;
or “beau” like “go” and “dough” like “sew”?
I’m left plum numb and feeling glum,
for spelling is dumb and troublesome!

I couldn't

agree more! English is, indeed, the most difficult language to learn because of all the rules, and then those things that don't conform to them...

I fing that language fails miserably, in general, to meet my needs when I have something to 'express'...sometimes it's better to show it, rather than tell!

Thank you
