She walks with pride and supple ease,
And in the solace of the day she is fearless.

She is the most beautiful woman any eye will ever greet.

Her light brightens the sun and his
Rays find comfort in her visage as
She takes her rightful place among
    Ebony queens and admirers’ dreams,

But at night she is alone.

When no eyes lust, when shadows intrude
And the sun turns his back to elope with the moon.

    She cries.

Yet no tears will dry for her light is dim
And inside her arms lie her greatest fear,

    a pillow.
