As I race through darkened streets
    dash through crimson flooded alleys
my sense of urgency keeping fear at bay
I glance ahead keeping destination in sight
my friends, my family far beyond me
my goal, my steps beside their own
I race onward toward the same
    my steps faltering..
    I halt in pain
    falling to my knees
    I glance around me
    heart filled with despair
    my mind filled with memories
    soul no longer containing misery
    tears spill
    mind pounding
    heart and memory collide
as painful images of her face
the simultaneous sound of her screams
I cry out... my life disgraced
amongst painful reminiscings of her agony
kneeling in these blood soaked streets
I mourn in the abysmal silence...
    My thoughts upon memory...

Some memories are difficult to completely run away from no matter how far you travel. Such painful images in this piece.
