    MY OWN DREAM

    I had a dream.
    I had a dream that I made a journey
Back to my early ancestors country
    Africa.
    I grew
    I learned
I understood the purpose God bestowed upon me
    And I was ready,
To be part of the movement in delivering my people
    All of them.
They did not welcome it at first
    They did not understand it.
    Because
    No one understood them
But we all opened our eyes
To our real value in this world

Then we were no longer separated
Because God in turn gave us all similar dreams
    The Diaspora
Between the Negroes, Africa, and the history
    Was over

Everything that was stolen from us
    Was returned to us.
    Our dignity
    Our respect
    Our quality

Those who punished us with their ignorance
    Those with no identity
    Came to us with mercy
And they were filled with a new unbreakable love
    Even we ourselves
    Paid homage to those
    We have hurt
    To the damage
    We had given ourselves
    Our culture
    We finally made peace

We greeted all our brothers and sisters
    Black, white, red, and yellow
    To feast on our happiness
    To wade in our waters.
Until the mistakes of all peoples were dealt
    And put away
Until it was all the past
And no part of the future

    But we still remembered
    Yes,
    We all remembered
Because that’s what made us better
And that’s what made our future better
Soon history no longer had to repeat
Because history was exactly what it was
And all that was left was a reachable hope.

    I can dream a dream
    Even if it’s too surreal.
