    A Desert Rose
I wander the prairie, kicked over dirt
Travel through the forest only to see the hurt
Insecticides sprayed on my hind leaves
The chemicals react with chlorophyll as my mind grieves
Grew in the wild, behind the weeds
My vines ran along a fence, steel alloy cuts me and my sores bleed
Roots taken out from the stem like a heartless villain
I’m at a home depot to be bought by a civilian
When will I grow to seek my pavilion?
Like spring sprouts new buds, so fulfilling

Even try to break through elements, climb bigger trees
Dogs pee on me, I fall to my knees
    Landscapers trim me, I’m fly
My outer image is terrific, but my seeds cry
I’m in a flowerbed, but I produce no blossoms
Sitting on the window sill, my heart is as still as possums
Leaned over chop off by the lawnmower
My roots remain strong, a new rose grows over my shoulder
How can roses grow in a climate so mesquite?
How could God produce something so unique?

I wondered what those other plants were like that broke the concrete
Their leaves grow with beauty, colors are so mystic
I was planted in so many yards, grew in the wild
Side by side you loved me, heart like a child
When we are in the sun, I talk, watch your skin blush
So gentle with your touch, the wind blows over your body, a rush
Know when to grow little in the sun and soak up the rain
You make my sprouts bloom, the ending to the game
Your presence, such an oasis, you spray your love on me if I fall
In the desert of life, you’re my waterfall
