A gung-ho Christian is what I use to be,
Learned some Word and thought I was free.
Didn’t think there was nothing left to do,
Just being saved, I thought, was enough;
Coming up from the water,
I thought I was through.

I was excited about this brand new way of life.
Thought it was going to be easy with no worries or strife.
I had it together or so I believed,
Didn’t realize in order to reach Heaven I had to read.
Read His word and live it day by day,
And work my faith when I pray.

I became dormant somewhere down the road,
Picked up some bad habits and was carrying a full load.
I couldn’t understand what was happening to me,
I had lost my way and couldn’t see.

Crying out for help in the depths of my mind,
Remembering the days when understanding and love is what I wanted to find.

A gung-ho Christian is what I use to be,
I learned some Word but I wasn’t free.
