Where and how do they get this statistic??

is this 'statistic' for dramatic effect?

(are they just calculating the amount that die in a year or have died within they last few years, then just sum up the daily equivalent??

I never heard of a child dying every 3 seconds in Africa. Thats new info to me, but its not surprising. According to Wise Intelligent in his song "Globe Holders", a child dies every minute of HIV/AIDS in Sub-Sahara Africa.
