Black Parenting : $6,000 to Birth a Child. No thanks. Alternatives?

Is it that bad? Especially for a young couple? Is there an optimal physical size? Didn't we use midwives for centuries on end?

There are probably a lot of optimal attributes that correlate with better chances. It's been years since I looked into it, but the impression I got was that giving birth is no joke. Infant mortality and maternal death rates among developing and developed countries was enough to convince me that medical care is important during child birth.

The unfortunate truth of the matter is there are simply a lot of mothers and children who don't survive without medical care. Every culture and ethnic group probably had numerous ways to try to deal with it, but scientific medicine provided game changing progress. Access to that care, seems to be the biggest hurdle to me since getting people to curb their birth rates is pretty difficult to do in a sane way.

The woman in question wants to go natural. She's vegetarian and all that. Of course I want the safest natural route.

some think they want to go natural, that is until that first contraction hits.
study. learn. there are plenty of support groups for women.

Hi Brother Asomfwaa ...

I think it's really great that you're considering these costs prior to actually needing them ... (right?) ... :)

Right . . . :p

As you're considering costs, don't leave out those prior to the delivery of the baby, for the same Sister that must deliver the baby, has for 9 months experienced a complete transitioning in her body, and oftentimes soul. The Brother has walked around without any noticeable changes, but not the case for her. Clothes, food, medical care, a host of things are needed.

We're two young people just being realistic. Do we splurge now and struggle later? Or do we cut corners now, cut corners later, and have enough for a rainy day. Besides, she wants to go natural and she sees the price as too much. No sense in continuing our exploitation because the Doctor knows we depend on him.

Okay, so we're at the birth, and i'm surprised it only costs $6K ... where do you get that number?

I was going on the low estimate. I'd cut corners even when not cutting corners. :p

I don't know, i haven't had a baby in years, but that seems mighty low in this day and time.

I'd like to encourage you to continue, not starting with or stopping with the birth, for they are only the beginnings ... the first costs ... as you will be paying for the rest of your life ... and if you find the delivery costs of the baby daunting ... STOP NOW ... for it only gets worse.

It's not me the child is for. The child wants to come. I just want to bring her in safely and raise her into what she is meant to be. At the same time, while we talk of independence, something like birth can be independent--is it 'the hype' that tells us otherwise?

Good Look'n Out! :)

Love You!

Destee

Love you back! :)

ps ... since it is the Sister that is doing the actual carrying and delivering of the child, it's a bit selfish of you to want to cut financial corners there ... where you are not the direct recipient of the cut ... it may serve you better to cut costs where you are the one actually sacrificing ... so the effort can be met in the Spirit you are doing it ... to help the Family ... Love You!

Other Brothers may bring cash but I'm bringing coupons, redeemable in the right places and the right time. ;-)
