Black Parenting : $6,000 to Birth a Child. No thanks. Alternatives?

In the very first scene of Roots, Cicely Tyson demonstrates giving birth to a baby in a more traditional setting. There she squats and eventually pushes the baby out.

In modern hospitals, women are expected to do 200 different things and terribly lay on their back and give birth. Did I mention it costs some $6,000?

If our Ancestors, enslaved and liberated didn't pay any $6,000--why do/should we? What's a comprehensive way around the cost?

Nationalize healthcare. In the meantime, support organizations that provide care for women.

It costs money though because of modern progress. What we're not talking about here is all the women and children who don't survive because of a lack of access to health care.
