If only
i could've told you the days wouldn't always be long
that you sang the sweetest song that your family'd ever heard
but we'd never hear another song so sweet
without you

If only
i could've flashed a snapshot of your baby's 2nd birthday
And her mommy's 24 hour days that would last for weeks
without you

i would've told you what it would be like to not have you here
but i didn't know
never thought i'd be thinking about living
without you

Should i have told you
that if you left too soon
that we couldn't change the world
but the world would keep turning anyway
in a different direction
without you

If only i could've helped you see that you had more than even you knew or dreamed

Should i have told you that you always had 'it'
from day one
straight shot
with no game added
just talent, strength and heart

Maybe i should've told you more
Maybe you would've believed it
Maybe you would've done it another way
and we wouldn't have to be doing it
without you

If only you had believed
i might have tried to believe

And you'd be here.

For my lil' brother, Gus Jr. (10/25-69-1/30/02) who's now soaring with the eagles. R.I.P.
