The winter olympics just isn't my thing. The Biathlon is cool, and the snowboarding slope runs were nice but that's it for me. That's only about a day or so worth of action.

Still waiting to see some bobsled. That and downhill skiing are my favorites. Those guys skiing at 85 mph are just crazy.

(NNPA)–There are five African-American athletes to keep an eye on during the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi in Krasnodar Krai, Russia.

Speed skater Shani Davis, along with women’s bobsled members Lolo Jones, Lauryn Williams, Aja Evans and Jasmine Fenlator, are each in position to help make American history in the Winter Olympics.

I commend them but it just isn't my thing. I don't even think I'll be able to watch the Dogecoin sponsored Jamaicans this year either.

The reason it is my thing is because I am American. And I root for America on the world stage. I wouldn't watch any national events or anything like that. It is a good way to teach my kids about patriotism, geography and the world as a whole. In a fun way. Flags of the world. How people are different. All that good stuff.

My six year old daughter saw a Shani Davis interview with an American Flag banner by his name and asked if black people were American.(forgive her...she's 6) She certainly knew the Mexican Flag...because she goes to school with so many Hispanics I guess.

So she thought that Mexicans were Mexican and she didn't know what black people were.

I explained that Black people were as American as she was.

Olympics are great...but figure skating sucks.

No, it doesn't. The judges who judge the competition are biased and unfair. But the sport itself is brilliant. Only men say stuff like this!!!!

I said I wouldn't watch, but my brother keeps talking to me about it, since he loves sports all around; so now I'm watching again.
