I slept with an average of 7 men in a day

When 33 strip dancers were arrested in Lagos recently and their half-nude pictures splashed on the pages of an evening newspaper, not a few people condemned the dancers and the operators of the night club in which they operated.

But many people seemed to have failed to reckon that the business could not have thriven without patronage from members of the public, or that many of the dancers were forced into the trade by circumstances.

For instance 17-year-old Agatha found herself in prostitution as a result of circumstances beyond her control and she is now full of regrets for the unseemly experience. ??My father had three wives and my mum had three daughters for him. I am the last of the three girls,?? said the Enugu State born girl. ??I lived with my maternal grandmother. Sometime in March last year, I was on my way to my father?s house when I was accosted by a lady from my village. She asked me why I wasn?t in school.??

The lady, called Mama Ify, lived a distance away from Agatha?s father. Believing that Mama Ify was genuinely concerned about her welfare, Agatha explained that she had to stop going to school for lack of funds. ??I didn?t go back to school after my JSS III exams because my father had no money. When I said so, she told me she had a sister in Ibadan who sold provisions, and the sister was in need of a sales girl.?? READ MORE

It's a hurtful sad story how so many young girls get caught in the glitch and out of
bad deep circumstances that they can't control and then lose there self-esteem

Sadly Nigerian prostitutes are replacing Chinese and other Asians all across Europe. In Italy 60% of the sex workers are Nigerians. They are often given the "difficult customers". Old men, handicap, other minorities, fat lesbians, etc and have to live on a rank system where they get paid less to deal with the lower paying customers. One need only google nigerian sex workers Italy to find a list of sites that discuss the rapidly growing trend. Chinese women are becoming less cheap as China's economy is growing not to mention many European Scandanavians like the black figure. Italy's only response to the problem was to move it off the streets to the brothels. Sadly how we are treated starts at home and if the Nigerian government doesn't look out for the welfare of its citizens, others wont either. This is a very sad story of a young woman being treated less than a person by losers eager for a profit at anyone's cost.

    yes very disturbing...

you can bet that anything that can and will make money, some one will capitalize on it, no matter what it is...

If eating dog sh*t became a delicacy, scores would be in the Dog sh*t breeding business...

someone, or somethin would be exploited, enslaved and used and abused for profit.

This is a very disturbing and unfortunate situation, but i'm so happy to read that Agatha escaped this crude and terrifying fate. Many children (and adults too) are less fortunate. Many arent so lucky and many end up dead without a trace. This is a horrible crime that happens all over the world to all kinds of people. I imagine there is no words to even describe what this most feel like for a victim of prositution trafficking.

Agatha is a hero in my book! She helped many other girls with her cries and resistance! I know this will probably haunt her mind and self-esteem for a long time, but there lies a lesson and a message to pass onto other young women.

If you ever see this thread on Destee.com, know that i'm proud of you! You didn't give up and except this fate. Even in fear, you took a hold of your own destiny!

    WAY TO GO, AGATHA!!!:jump::jump::jump::love:

    I'm indifferent.

I'm know we love black people, but the sex trade is an international phenomenon. Child sex slaves are popular and can be as young as 6 years old.

It's one of the reason I RESENT anyone saying that black slave women willingly had sex with their masters - because by extension you can say the same thing about these women. Slavery still exist! Women and children are being used and abused for sex mainly, but also for domestic servitude. Check a book called 'Sold' about Indian girl tricked into prostitution. Her stepfather sold her and thought he was selling her to be a domestic servant.

Check a movie called 'Holly' about child sex prostitutes in Cambodia and Thailand (again, some as young as 6 years old).

Check a movie called 'Eastern Promises' about young Russian prostitutes as young as 14 who are drugged and raped and sold to different men.

Check a book called 'Tell Them You're One of Them' which features a story about a African girl prostitute that is suffering the demise of her skin as she using products to fade away her brownness and be more fair skinned - thinking it will attract more men.

Check out a book called 'Slave: My True Story' about an African woman sold into domestic slavery to Arabs in Sudan, and the girls getting (as young as 9 years old) getting abused and raped and bleeding before they are sold to the enslavers.

And on a similar vein but a little different, check out Waris Dirie's book 'Desert Flower' about female genital mutilation.

I guess after a while, after reading the books, watching the movies, hearing the stories - I've become desensitized. Not to the point that I don't actually care about them, but it's a huge problem and it's way more bigger than I can help with or do anything about. When a problem is too big for me to handle in my own way or whatever way I can.... then I just 'check out' and leave it alone. The only people I can help and make different are my own children, and that's who I try to focus on - the next generation of my local generation. Anger without action breeds contempt and resentment..... at least it does for me. That's why I get indifferent and complacent over stuff like this. Anger takes more energy than I'm willing to give it - and yet its got no place to go and boils over inside; and indifference and complacency makes me a little more relaxed so I go with the latter.

If you want to know more or if you want to help, I suggest these two websites, the 2nd one is actually a magazine I suggest for anyone to subscribe to...

    How can you become desensitized?

    That's beyond me...

I seen a lot of this and read about it...And Yes it happens every day...And it still makes me sick to this day...

These predators doing these things to this women and children are desensitized...

    Come on now Sis! Really?

If you "resent" those allegations of people saying that slaves went willingly...then you can't be desensitized to this slavery that is still going on like you said.

But even in that 'resentment' I can't do anything or change another who I am resenting. Remember the old adage that you change anyone but yourself? So myself is the focus. I try not to focus on what I can't change.
