Yesterday, I went shopping at the local Lover's Market
Incognito: I covered myself to shield my true identity
Desperately seeking sustenance for my heart, privately and secretly
I strolled and rolled up and down several aisles
Seeing all the happy coupled pairs
While I lowered my head and eyes
Avoiding their pitied stares
Then, I proceeded on to the Deli
With deep sighs, I yearned for the delicious wares showcased through the glass
The smiling attendant was poised to assist me as my gaze ran a lusty pass
Upon each delicacy
My budget was small. So, I couldn't afford much
But my fingertips feasted as I reached out to merely touch
The clear barrier which seperated me from all that I longed for
Perhaps another day, I could return to purchase bountiful more
But, at that time, I could only count my pitiful change
And 16 Cents was my spree's limit and buying range
So, I asked for:
A penny's worth of "Sincere Thoughts"
A nickel's worth of "Tender Kisses"
And a dime's worth of "Available Love"
The employee remained silent
Visibly shocked at my acceptance of the bits, pieces and shavings
But, I held my head high, resolutely refusing to be ashamed of my tiny savings
Now yes, all my wrapped packages were small and meager
But my heart still thumped and pounded, excited and eager
To rush all my precious parcels home
Maybe on a later visit, I could come back and leisurely roam
Other areas of the store
But for then, my shopping was completed, my funds depleted
And so, I swiftly headed for the check-out lane
I had dedicated all I had to give; but, prayerfully, I had much to gain....
