It's a cliche but love is letting go.

I'm wondering whether it might be easier (for lack of a better word) to let someone you love go, when they don't love you back than it would be to let someone you love go who loves you in return, but you need to let them go in order for you or them to grow. Hopefully that makes sense.

    Monster,

Why would you want to "keep" someone who doesn't love you? Actually, you can't. If they don't love you--what is their real motivation to "stay"?

Scorp...honestly, I can't answer your first question because I've not had that personal experience. But I do know of women that find it difficult to let go of a man even when he has demonstrated and even told them that they don't love them. I've often wondered about that myself.

As far as what someone's motivation would be to stay with someone they don't love...well, I knew a man in a situation like that tell me once, if the woman wants to take care of him, pay the bills still knowing that he doesn't love her, then he will let her until he gets either tired or meets someone he falls in love with.

But to love someone, and for them to love you, but for reasons you both thought were important, you needed to separate...to let go...to me, that would be the tougher situation.

    What you think?

Here's a little quote I use in my life...not only love. I think it's a good rule to live by (for me). Think about it and if you like, apply to the area of life appropriate....

"If you love something, set it free
If it comes back to you, It is yours
If it does not, I was never meant to be"
    Anonymous

I don't believe in holding someone as a "hostage of my love". There can be no happiness when you know the person you are with does not love you and surely you cannot think you are happy when you KNOW you are holding someone captive by your obsession.
