Black People Politics : Politics From The Black Perspective

In the Spirit of Politics,

... Take your time Mr. President, take your time.

"There's a fresh year, but it's not as good as being re-elected. Obama is starting from a rough position, and the clock is already short," said Julian Zelizer, a presidential historian at Princeton University. "By June or July, most legislators are focused on getting re-elected, and it's very hard to get them to do anything at that point."
High on the agenda for the start of the year is a renewed push on immigration. Bipartisan consensus about the need for action on immigration in the wake of the 2012 presidential election gave way in 2013 to opposition from conservative House Republicans. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has started offering subtle signs he'll put more weight behind the issue despite continued resistance from the tea party.

Official business behind him, Obama looks to 2014

HONOLULU (AP) — The last vestiges of 2013's political wrangling officially behind him, President Barack Obama is setting his sights on the coming year, when a number of unfinished tasks will increasingly compete for attention with the 2014 midterm elections.
Vacationing in Hawaii, Obama on Thursday signed into law a bipartisan budget deal softening the blow from scheduled spending cuts and a military bill cracking down on sexual assault. The two bills, passed by Congress with broad bipartisan support, constituted a modest step away from gridlock, and both parties cautiously hoped that spirit of cooperation might linger after New Year's Day.

Obama, Democrats push for extension of unemployment benefits

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - On the eve of the expiration of federal benefits for the long-term unemployed, U.S. President Barack Obama and his Democratic allies are stepping up pressure on Republicans to renew the program.
Top White House economic adviser Gene Sperling said in a statement issued on Friday that a failure to renew emergency jobless benefits would harm the economy and he urged Congress to move quickly to pass a short-term extension of the aid.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, has vowed to bring to a vote a bill extending federal unemployment insurance benefits as soon as Congress returns from its holiday recess on January 6.

A lot of this year's goals have not been met. Focusing only on the good does not show the accountability expected from the president. Immigration reform, increase in the minimum wage, tax reform, expanded background checks on gun purchases, etc. And now we have an election year, so things are going to get even nastier. Can't wait to see what U.S. politics of 2014 has in store for us...

Name one POTUS that EVER put forth a platform and every single issue raised went into effect.

These are things that I have learned time ago. The projections came from the president, the national debt has climbed, and taxes have been added to the middle class. I looked things up and found that the fiscal year has ended so the deficit for the 2013 year is set in stone. The number I got for the projection came from the president's budget. It is what he projected. The national debt is available by searching.

The President's 2013 Projection (page 16, top left of page):

...and there is more.

And according to your links, they are payroll taxes, not Income Taxes. So unless the POTUS promised to cut Payroll Taxes, there really is no disagreement between POTUS and taxpayer since taxes to most of America fall under "Income" not "Payroll," don't you agree? :10500:

A lot of this year's goals have not been met.

Wow. I haven't posted here in a while so I missed all of this!

Focusing only on the good does not show the accountability expected from the president.

Only if one expects 100% of all promises made to be effected, it doesn't. If, however, one is aware there is a reason the constitution put checks and balances on government, then not so much.

Immigration reform, increase in the minimum wage, tax reform, expanded background checks on gun purchases, etc.

Surely you're not saying the POTUS is responsible for the failure of Immigration Reform to be passed by Congress (those old 'checks and balances' and the power-giving to the 3, not "I" but 3 branches of government)? If there's a failure there, it's with the Democratic members of the House of Representatives since the President doesn't pass LAW, the Congress does.

One could say the same thing for tax reform, since the Democrats are unable to muster the votes necessary to pass their party's platform vision. Or perhaps, I should say, they can't muster enough votes necessary to put the Tea Party into check or to give backbone to the Republican leadership to get their twitchy tail, the Tea Party, from wagging the dog.

And now we have an election year, so things are going to get even nastier. Can't wait to see what U.S. politics of 2014 has in store for us.

Then you can't wait to see if the white American voting public swallows the red pill or the blue pill. :)
