The Man and His Work by Michael Rochelle
This is a review of my art show titled "Stoetry" held at the Newark Public Library, Newark NJ on June 26, 2010. There were 23 pieces of my best poems and artwork on display. I also recited 15 poems (Stoetry) and this is what Michael's piece mostly highlights.

Recently, I had the honor and the priviledge to attend a “Stoetry” reading at the Newark Public Library. Stoetry is a self proclaimed word meaning "stories through poetry" and indeed, there is a story in every poem this young man has written. The host was a young man named Gary Lloyd James. Jamaica born Gary has found his path in life and his calling. He is blessed with a God given talent of writing poetry. But his poetry goes beyond mere rhyming verses. It struck me that noone, no matter who they are or what walk of life they lead, you can’t read one of Gary ’s poems without making a personal connection, without identifying a little bit with one of the many poems this man has written. It may not be a mirror of your life, but you can pick out pieces that seem to speak directly to you. Some are so poignant and vivid the vision of what one particular poem caused the author to have a momentary breakdown while reciting it and everyone present could feel the pain.

Several of his poems were combined with various drawings of the people he wrote about, such as Obama and Muhammed Ali. Not only is Mr. James a formidable poet, but a very gifted artist as well.

It was captivating to say the least to sit and listen as Gary read out several selections that he composed. He claims he is untrained and that his writings are a gift from God. Well, God surely blessed him by giving him the many vivid visions he uses to share through his poetry. One will find themselves very moved by such a selection of his works as Have I Wasted My Life? (an ode to the middle aged man), Or How Will I Face Tomorrow (dedicated to breast cancer survivors). He also writes of the struggles of the black man and/or woman, relationships between adults and children. While these may be written from a black man's point of view, make no mistake, they could refer to anyone on this planet.

He is the author of at least two novels, Untied Feelings, and his current release, A New Horizon.

If you missed this recent event you would do best to make sure you made it to the next one. Suffice it to say, you missed out on something very special, something that could make a big difference in your world and how you see things from now on.
