As-Salaam Alaikum, Bro. Brown!

....I just wanted to share this that I found on this subject my brother (from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/concubine?s=t :)

concubine
[kong-kyuh-bahyn, kon-]
noun
1. a woman who cohabits with a man to whom she is not legally married, especially one regarded as socially or sexually subservient; mistress.
2. (among polygamous peoples) a secondary wife, usually of inferior rank.
3. (especially formerly in Muslim societies) a woman residing in a harem and kept, as by a sultan, for sexual purposes.

These definitions would lead me to believe that verse 6 is not talking about concubines because verses 1 - 6 describe all believers, male and female...so female believers can express sexual passions with those whom their right hands possess...would it still mean concubines in your best opinion?...if so, could you please explain why?...

Thank you very much.
Bro. Broham

As Salaam Alaikum! !!

To my best opinion the True nature of men and women leads me to think that. But further looking at the verses what does sexual passions mean? I believe once we understand the context we will have our answer.

Walaikum Salaam!!!

I see my brother:).

Thanks...!

But the Muslim sisters can express their "sexual passions" with those whom their right hands possess, too (within the context you refered to.) Right?

As Salaam Alaikum! !!!!!!

Look at what the verse reads it says in the presence of there mates or whom there right hand posses. So you can interpret it however you like for me and us the NOI that is not our practice. Now in the Qur'an the Arabs under the leadership and Guidance of Prophet Muhammad( pbuh) did not practice that type of behavior nor those messengers before him nor the believers.

Walaikum Salaam!

Wow...now I don't want to assume so I'll just ask, the NOI does not believe that Surah 23:6 is a true Scripture or a Scripture from God (or Allah?):)...

Peace and may Allah Bless you.
Bro. Broham

As Salaam Alaikum! !!!!!

This isn't about the scripture anymore it's about you own ideas and interpretation. I gave you my answer and opinion. Due we believe in the scripture in the Qur'an most certainly. I just don't agree with your interpretation of it nor do I think any Muslim would.
