11 former Atlanta educators convicted in cheating scandal

ATLANTA (AP) — In one of the biggest cheating scandals of its kind in the U.S., 11 former Atlanta public school educators were convicted Wednesday of racketeering for their role in a scheme to inflate students' scores on standardized exams ...

Embarrassing. We live in Atl.
I can't help but believe if Black educators are practing this cheating, it has to be taking place in white districts also. I've always thought teachers having to teach to the test was a problem. But teachers cheating, changing the test is just to much.

My spouse thinks the teachers being hand cuffed and hauled off to jail was unnecessary. As a former parent of a student, I fell it was just. Harsh, yes. But, these teachers were not teaching. They were taking breaks, playing around and cheating on the test.

There needs to be an investigation into all school districts. I'm sure this is not the beginning or end of this type of cheating.

I tend to agree with your spouse on this one. This action taken is far more punitive than recent sex scandals perpetrated by teachers.

True. I can't compare the two. In this case I'm tempted to say they are close to the same. The number of students who were passed thru the system, by these teachers, not prepared for the next grade. Set up for failure.
I'm just mad about the whole thing. Outrageous. At the start some of the students were coming forward to say teachers erased and changed their test grades.

What should be done? I think the jail sentences being considered are tough. Just take their license and never let them yeach again.

I have no compassion for these teachers. This cheating had been going on for years. How many students, Black stufents, did they prepare for failure by passing them to the next grade unprepared.

Not to mention the scar the leave on Black teachers and our communities. They are to represent the cream of the crop in our communities, educators. And they cheat our students out of a good education.

Cheaters.

Hard choices ... Maybe I'm able to step back and compare the unequal teacher treatment concerning the separate offenses, rather than the effect each has on the students. Notwithstanding, the fledgling school system, especially within the Black community, and the serious lack of allocated funds.
