Pets / Animals : I don't care much for Dogs

I love dogs, always have. We call them "pets" but they are still animals with animal instincts. Adults leaving children unattended around a pack of animals who have keen dog pack instincts, are stupid. People should never adopt an animal unless they are willing to study their history and what their natural instincts tend to be for their breed. Not all dogs are good around children. Some dogs won't let you near their food--even their handlers. An owner should know this and teach that to their children or anyone that will be around their dogs. Dogs, must be trained and owners must handle them like an alpha member of the pack. Otherwise, they will resort to their instincts. In the absence of leadership, a leader will rise.

I agree with you. I have said repeatedly that white folks are careless when they look after children... and I hope no one thinks I am racist. I live here in Barbados and only recently I was mentioning to a friend that the way white folks take care of their children leaves a lot to be desired. I have seen white tourist here in this country walking the streets with their six and eight year olds BEHIND them...parents are in front...someone can snatch them and they would not have a clue. I visited the mall a few months ago and when I was in the car park I saw a white couple going to the bank, their young children were behind them. Something is wrong with the way they bond with their children. For black folks it is different they are always holding tight on their children...not sure if this is a cultural thing.

This is so tragic.
I do think that it is a cultural things. We Native Americans (for the most part) make our children our priority.

I have always loved dogs as well. Right now I only have a Pithuahua. She is half Pit Bull and half Chihuahua. I do not call them pets. In our family our dogs are family members with the same rights as us. I guess you can say she is spoiled but she is loyal and very gentle (unless someone tries to attack us). She is only 20 lbs. and destroyed a dog that weighed over 100 lbs. for getting to close to me. My dog Malika thought that the other dog was going to attack me and came to my rescue.

"Ha! Dogs are man's best friend. They don't judge you, steal from you (except food), they are loyal and unlike people -they are always glad to see you!"

This is very true...!
I totally agree. I have always had dogs and everyone other than the one I have now protected children before they would protect me and they were mine. You couldn't even spank your children in front of any of my dogs or they would attack you. Someone didn't believe me when I had a half Wolf half Shepard mix. I put on some real thick clothing and went towards her child like I was going to attack and my dog was on me in a heartbeat. No adult was allowed in my yard if I wasn't out there but any child could go into the yard and my dog was their best friend. That child was safe and everybody in the neighborhood knew it.
