I have been on various networking sites on the Internet, but whenever the topic of slavery comes up, it seems that people, mostly white people always say, IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON AND FORGET THE PAST.

The Jews have endured suffering and hardship during the Nazi reign of terror and after all of these years they have not forgotten. Why must black folks forget something that was so traumic, people who were forcibly removed from their land, sent to a strange land.
Family structure destroyed, language gone for ever.. Slavery was brutal and here in the Caribbean it was no picnic. I ask myself, if someone had raped me..would I ever forget..No... I would move on with my life...but I could not forget.

The nazis want to have the holocost to be forgotten as well. Keep bringing it up. Never forget

I, typically, say in response that they need to forget about and move on from 9/11 or some other event in American history that the group or individual cares deeply about.

For Southerners, I tell them to forget about and move from the Civil War.

Afterwards, the point settles in most succinctly....

For them(white people) to want to forget, and more importantly want us to forget is really silly and seems to only stem from guilt they might have that they want to forget because it cuts deep.

It's apart of our history, and all of history period. To just forget does a disservice to ourselves and children on how we got here and why, and remembering it gives us a better understanding to our own lives over all.
