Law Forum : The Death Penalty

I have no problems with child molestors and serial killers being put down

.

I think that only 17 states --- or I think it is 18 states that have done away with the death penalty. Do you think that the death penalty does any good or not? I personally do not see the use in it with one of the reasons being that it costs a helluva lot more than spending life in prison. It does not necessarily serve justice to someone because it does not change the fact that whatever happened happened. What are your thoughts. A great debate is very welcomed.

This is a controversial issue. I personally think that the death penalty should remain in force. I know that they are problems within the justice system. Some have been given the death penalty wrongfully, be that as it may, when a brutal killer is executed...HE CANNOT KILL AGAIN. I read sometime ago about a man in the USA who was incarcerated for murder...When he was released, the social workers and the psychiatrists said...WITH TREATMENT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO FIT BACK INTO SOCIETY.
After his release he applied for a job. Obviously no background check was done, he was hired, met a young woman who had a six year old child... HE STRANGLED THE CHILD. The funny thing was, they asked themselves...HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN. I am saying that no one knows the state of mind of a person. I believe that if you do the crime pay the fine... I am all for remediation...but in the meantime, society must be protected. I think folks like Amnesty International have a misplaced sense of compassion...they seemed to be more concerned with the criminals moreso than the victims.

No one is entitled to another's life. That removes the death penalty.

What about an eye for an eye? Also, I know if someone raped or killed one of my kids, I would take their life, without the slightest compunction.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste. That removes life imprisonment.

Out of place in this case because they obviously is not using their for anything good.

Though admittedly I sometimes think of 1984's beautiful ending when this question comes up.

We were heading into 1984 before the 70's were half way over.

Peace!
