Optimism vs realism: Which is better, and why?

Is it better to deal with things as they are, or to throw on those rose colored glasses ?

Is optimism or realism (or pessimism) a measure of ones strength? Or a way out of tough situations?

I think the importance of optimism rises, depending on how devastating one's reality is.

For example, if you have everything you need, safety, security, etc., there is no great need to be optimistic.

Who needs optimism when you have lots of money, and opportunity abounds as far as the eye can see?

Now, if you have little or none of these things, optimism can be your saving grace, your hope.

It can sustain you through the drought, when there is nothing else ... if you're lucky.

I think a healthy balance of each are needed, with varying degrees depending on the particular circumstances.

Again, thanks for joining us and sharing!

Much Love and Peace.

I would have to ask you for some clarification here.>>>>

1. In EVERY situation or scenario, does it have to be EITHER/OR?...Must one face/deal with/view EVERY obstacle, event, or decision with OPTIMISM or REALISM?

2. In YOUR OPINION, is "rose colored glasses" the same as "OPTIMISM" or "DENIAL?"

3. In YOUR OPINION, is "REALISM" synonymous with "PESSIMISM?"

Why would you view realism as pessimism?!!? Being pragmatic and facing the facts ( realism ) will save you a lot of grief. I know plenty of people not walking this earth thinking 2 + 2 = 6.
