Some 10,000 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints live in Northern Virginia, a crucial battleground region in what is expected to be one of the most tightly contested states of the 2012 presidential campaign. Situated next to the nation's capital, the area is a hub for politically active Mormons in their 20s and 30s.

This woman doesn't speak for all 'mormon-kind'. I really hate when the media tries to pigeonhole certain groups....

This country is probably ready for a Mormon president, but I understand the concern. When I was child, there was mention of mormonism in one of my Sunday School books.
In the 'cult' chapter.
I was, like...9 years old. We were taught that 'mormons' were a cult. Like the Moonies, Jehovah's Witnesses and 7th Day Adventists (and a few others that I can't recall).

I remember when Romney came out as a 'mormon. Then Glenn Beck... and I thought, 'Wow...so mormonism is a bonafide religion, now?"

How exactly is such a thing decided? Of course, everyone is serious about their faith, but I'm of the opinion that the only real diff between a 'cult' and a 'religion' is popularity.

Everyone speaks derisively when it comes to scientology, but....
We'll see. In 200 years? We will see.
We could be staring at the beginning of the world's next dominant 'One True Faith/Path' religion.

Americans have always made a big 'thing' out of religion. Where presidents are concerned... plenty didn't care for JFK because of his catholic roots. Some still do. This anti-catholic 'thing' has been brewing for a good 'couple hun'erd years' or so.

Makes no difference to me. Religion is a small matter.
So long as the POTUS' economic policies don't hinge on 'the cards' and their strange visions?
... so long as they're actually acknowledging diversity - taking the opinions of those who aren't followers of their belief system into consideration before they go drafting bills? It's not 'all about you, your religion and it's followers'. You're not the POTUS of **insert your belief system here**, alone. It's about the good of everyone. (like the 'abstinence only' prevention being taught...in place of REAL STD/Birth control prevention, i.e., condoms, birth control in Texas...even though the latter is more effective at reducing unwanted pregnancies... by leaps and bounds? Personally, I'm all for 'common sense legislation'...and we see the effect of this stupid idea. It's no big shock that about half of the states with the highest preggo rates are located in the south, i.e., the Bible Belt...with Texas being the 'buckle').

It's no matter to me what any 'believe'.

Sometimes, I think it'd be interesting to have a non-religious/faith-lacking type in the WH.
At least, the individual wouldn't be pulled in any weird direction by their 'strange' biases... or starting wars because their 'sky-god' told them, too.
Kinda like George 'God Told Me To Go to Iraq & Start a Ruckus' Bush?
...or why else was America Hiroshima bombing Iraq with bibles (in the very beginning of Iraqi Freedom)?

...but I doubt that's gonna happen.
You have to believe in a 'skygod/nature god(esse)(s)' to be a POTUS.
