No Black men where more against Christianity and the Bible then the Black Aetheists of the Harlem Renaissance
And yet these men had so much love
and heartfelt desire to serve their people, with a true altruistic empathic urge, that their love for black Christians and all black folks was greater then the love of negro preachers for their own parissioners, and greater then assimilist negros during a time of Jim Crow, and elitist tendencies towards self hate.
Their attacks were not based on subconscous negative energies or vibrations
but out of love for the Race, and their focus was not narrowminded only on religion
but broad minded in an effort to improve the lives , and the education of the masses of black folks not just here but globaly was well as a desire for our political and economic liberation as a people.
Many of this group are well known such as JA Rogers, John Jackson, and A Phillip Randolph but others are not well known such as;
The outstanding personality of this group was HUBERT HENRY HARRISON, who distinguished himself as orator, journalist, scholar and philosopher. Harrison was born in St. Croix, Virgin Islands in 1883, and died in New York City in 1927. At the age of 16 he left home and made a world tour as a cabin boy on a boat. Landing in New York a year later, he worked on routine jobs by day and attended school at night. Shortly afterwards he became a special foreign-language clerk in the Post Office for four years. In his spare time, since he could not afford to attend college, he educated himself, reading widely in the fields of Anthropology, Sociology, Philosophy, Science, Literature and Drama. He joined the Socialist Party and for many years was one of the most influential leaders of that organization. He was also an organizer for the Industrial Workers of the World, a militant labor organization of the early part of this century.
Harrison was a champion of the underprivileged, at all times and places.http://www.africawithin.com/jgjackson/black_atheists.htm
