Black Education / Schools : Akaba House Home Schooling Resource Center

Thank you for your references. If the future of technology is of concern to you I am not sure why you say my site does not contain it.

There is a lot of information hee. including the California content standards for what children should be learning at a particular grade level. information from the writing center at CSLA for transitioning between high school and college writing, courses on learning, Chines, Swahili and Spanish, geography. It would take more than a minute to absorb the richness of the information found here.

I saw that page.

E-Mail Skills; Word Processing Skills and Web Skills.

I think we have a different concept of what understanding technology means. That is using technology. Web skills is programming an HTML interpreter.

My site is for grade school kids. I tried to offer useful information. I did not try to offer everything anybody would ever want to know.

How many industries in our society require knowledge of the inner workings of a CPU? This is extra-curricular. There is room for it but it's not the touchstone of educational value.

Why is curiosity supposed to be restricted by what industries want? I built that plastic model engine in grade school. It is no more difficult to understand than a CPU.

Are CPUs as difficult to understand as some would have you believe? My college course forced us to learn twos-complement arithmetic and it is totally unnecessary for computer comprehension.

Double-entry accounting is 700 years old. How hard can it be if it is that old? We are being told stuff is more difficult than it really is and then sold books with crappy explanations.

Almost all computers are von Neumann machines but I never heard the term in 4 years at IBM and never saw it in any documentation. But TIME magazine could tell everyone in 1999. IBM hired John von Neumann as a consultant in 1952.

sister river,

I posted this link in a thread you started back in 2007, its the same effort that was started in Brother's Chat, which is now closed. However, Sister Destee continued the effort and created the school http://destee.com/forums/showpost.php?p=597150&postcount=8
...please see the thread titled: Our own Black People School !

Perhaps you where unaware of the continual efforts, and we still have the same folk that can make this a success...Peace In my sister friend:
