Black Spirituality Religion : Black Christian People

If he was one of our more fiery political leaders the likes of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and Shirley Chisholm we would be a lot farther in society then we are now with our esteemed Caucus of Complacency.

I have hears a little about Adam Clayton Powerll Jr. in this community and I had been meaning to due more reading about him.

WOW! I welcome this challenge and believe that Black people should be open to debate this issue--ALL OF IT! You have brought up a lot of points! And, I hope that I can address some aspects based on my research and understanding. So here goes...

Chevron, you must have misunderstood . This is not intended to be a challenge. You are going off on something that doesn't address the topic. It is not about debating what you feel is accurate or inaccurate as it pertains to your research or understanding of the scriptures in the bible. Most of the bible is left up to interpretation anyway.

I just do not really understand the religious aspect. I just have a hard time understanding how people can conform so easily to the idea of 'religion'. But I respect other people's take on it as long as it doesn't target trying to control me.

My feelings exactly;
Now, do you have any thoughts as to why black folks continue to embrace this so-called Christian religion and continue to worship and praise it's so-called God? Both of which are the handiwork of white people who had enslaved our ancestors. A religion that has established it's prominence and dominance using torture, exploitation, destruction, lies, murder, superstitions, fear and guilt.

This should stir up some interesting conversation.

Why do black people of all people on this planet hold onto the so-called Christian faith? It is a well established fact that the early white settlers here used Christianity and some of the scriptures in the bible to justify the enslavement and atrocious treatment of our ancestors. They relegated our people to the status of chattel so that they wouldn’t have to consider them as humans and therefore could be bought and sold just like live stock. Under the classification of chattel they could not be baptized nor could they be Christians which eased their guilt and conscious. Our ancestors weren’t allowed to be a so-called Christian but their descendants willingly embrace this pseudo and con job of a religion.

The so-called religion has risen to prominence by way of wars and destruction of entire civilizations. The early crusades were massive campaigns of murder and massacres of men, women and children who embraced other religions or no faith at all.

They were labeled heretics, pagans and non believers and sentenced to death by burning at the stake. Many hundreds of thousands were tortured if they did not renounce their beliefs and convert to this so-called Christian religion during The Spanish Inquisition. Why even their beloved and venerated so-called God Jehovah brought about The Great Deluge that supposedly killed off all of humanity (with the exception of a few so-called chosen people) and ordered the destruction of cities and the mass killings of its inhabitants.. (Slaughtered men, women and children to be taken as slaves and plunder) in Deuteronomy 20: 10-17. Now I can go on and on about how this religion has been promulgated to mislead folks, exploit and con them out of their money to fill church and pastors coffers, fill their heads with superstitions and their hearts with fear, guilt and shame and got them worshiping a so-called God created by white folks who don’t even consider them equal, but I won’t do that. Oh, I just did, oh well.

So I ask again, why do Black folks in today’s modern world with access to an infinite amount of information, continue to be a slave to a so-called religion used in the past to justify the enslavement of our ancestors?

Below are a few pieces of scriptures provided for your perusal;

The Flood (Genesis 6-8)
The cities of the plain, including Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18-19)
The Egyptian firstborn sons during the Passover (Exodus 11-12)
The Canaanites under Moses and Joshua; Numbers 21:2-3 Deuteronomy 7:1-7; Joshua 6:17, 21)
The Amalekites annihilated by Saul (1 Samuel 15)

The answer is very easy. The crux of the doctrine is love. Love for each other and love for oneself. In addition, many of the rules/laws are “common sense” teachings, the ten commandments, proverbs parables etc. whether stolen copied or whatever you want to call it, it is a concise collection of good rules to live by. As a logical well-versed individual, I make the choice to use what I think is good and the rest is just superfluous content that makes an interesting story. I know that there is a Creator period. Call him what ever You want. My mother used to say she would rather believe, follow the bible and be wrong. (no harm no foul) than to not believe and it is real. Also this infinite amount of information you speak of has been analyzed and allowed to be disseminated. let that marinate.

There is nothing here for me to marinate on my brother.
A doctrine of love may be what some people promote and want to believe it to be, but it da-n sure isn't what the Christian religion is. That doctrine of love never had a chance against a doctrine of corruption. Now from everything that I have read and experienced, it's a corrupt religion now and always has been.
Now, with that aside it still doesn't answer the question (why black folks continue to embrace this so-called Christian religion and continue to worship and praise it's so-called God? Both of which are the handiwork of white people who had enslaved our ancestors. A religion that has established it's prominence and dominance using torture, exploitation, destruction, lies, murder, superstitions, fear and guilt). No doctrine of love here my man!!!! Now marinate on that and get back to me.

Hi Brother @Al D ... Great question! Thanks for asking it.

I think our people choose Christianity, like we choose calling each the N word with endearment, or voting in a country where historically we were not people, or calling 911 when you need the police ... I could go on and on.

I think it's because as bad as it may be, there is reason for hope.

However tainted the Bible is, our Ancestors leaned on and survived with it.

Survived in that, we're here. I do not know how they did it, but we're here.

They had Christianity, they had the Bible, but not much else.

What if Christianity was ours to begin with. Given to us tainted and twisted like most things are.

Maybe our Ancestors saw / felt the genuineness of the parts left undisturbed.

The Bible was here then, now, and probably tomorrow - like the Pyramids.

If it was good enough for my Ancestors ... it is good enough for me (to respect it if nothing else).

I grew up Christian, most all my people were Christian, I don't know how Christian I am now (or what exactly Christianity is) ... but ... I do believe there is a higher power and we can call them God or whatever one wants ... each of us gets to decide for self.

Like the N word ... I'm learning of late that it really is a word that belongs to us. But it has been twisted and used against us, so much to the point that we find it challenging to accept what is actually our own. Where we cringe when we hear it (sometimes). We are torn regarding what belongs to us. Who did that, twisted the word up like that and served it back to us.

Like voting in a country that did not count us as people, but now we are the group that can swing elections. We have good Sisters and Brothers on both sides of this argument. Many have given their life for us to have the opportunity to take part. There is reason to participate, and to ask why.

Calling 911 ... doesn't that cause cognitive dissonance in us ... yet we do it if we must and actually hope for a good outcome and oftentimes get it. But man, why.

Almost everything is tainted.

It's hard to tell what is the smoke and what is the mirror.

Masters of manipulation.

Bottom line for us, in my opinion, is if one wants Christianity, Islam, Devil Worship, Atheism, whatever they want ... let them have it. Let me have mine and you have yours. Let it not divide us. Let their twisted efforts not win.

Uhhh ... did I get off topic ... :offtopic2: ....

You asked:

"Why do black people of all people on this planet hold onto the so-called Christian faith?"

I think it is because grown folk do what they want.

Thanks for letting me share.

Love You!
