The Bible isn't the word of God. It contains the word of God by Matt Slick One of the objections raised by critics of biblical inspiration is that the Bible is not the word of God but that it contains the word of God. Is this accurate? No. First of all, this doesn't fit what the Bible says about itself. The collection of 66 books that the Christian Church recognized as being inspired speaks as the very words of God in many places. "Thus says the Lord" occurs over 400 times in the Old Testament. "God said" occurs 42 times in the Old Testament and four times in the New Testament. "God spoke" occurs 9 times in the Old Testament and 3 times in the New Testament. "The Spirit of the Lord spoke" through people in "The Spirit of the Lord spoke" through people in 2 Sam. 23:2; 1 Kings 22:24; 2 Chron. 20:14. continued here: http://carm.org/bible-isnt-word-god-it-contains-word-god
I understand this - so then the question is - where is the actual and literal proof that god himself was actually the 'Thus says the Lord", "God Said", "God Spoke" and "The Spirit of the Lord spoke? I can again write all day saying "And God said", or use any of the 1-4 that you listed but you would have to ask yourself, would you believe me? The answer would be an absolute not!!! So then what makes god a reality in speaking to these people more of a reality then god speaking to me? Why do you believe "Thus says the Lord" - what physical proof do you have that it was literally the lord who spoke anything? This is where the burden of proof shifts in a direction that is usually - evaded- or we see answers that do not actually answer the question or even better yet - we get a question for a question. So let me again make it as clear as possible: Where is the proof that god spoke to these humans? 1.) You cannot use a book that is up for question as its the book that states god said - scriptures passing is not valid either - the whole bible is up for scrutiny let alone the premise that god literally spoke to the humans only mentioned in scripture but no where else.
Seven Reasons Why I Believe THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD From the book CHRISTIAN FOUNDATIONS by Dr. Ian Richard Kyle Paisley WStS Note: This etext was typed and reformatted by Katie Stewart from a reprint (1971-- uncopyrighted) of the original edition. The use of the letter "s" instead of "z" was correct at the time of publishing. THE BIBLE IS the Grand Charter of Christianity. To undermine, discredit and reject the Bible is to undermine, discredit and reject Christianity. Christianity is rooted and grounded upon the Bible and if the foundations be destroyed what will Christians do? The popular assertion of present-day shallow thinkers that their Christianity rejects the Old Testament but accepts the New is, to say the least, unrealistic, for the New Testament is based on the Old. Both are inseparably united and of necessity when one is rejected the other also must be refused. What the seed is to the plant so is the Old to the New. How can the plant be received and the seed which produced it rejected? The first task then of any inquiry into Christianity must be an examination of the claims of the Bible.. ...CONTINUED HERE: http://www.whatsaiththescripture.com/The.Holy.Bible/Reasons7.Bible.Word.of.GOD.html "WILL THE OLD BOOK STAND?" Will the Old Book stand, when the "higher critics" state That grave errors are discovered on its page? Will it save the sinful soul? Will it make the wounded whole? Will its glorious truth abide from age to age? Will its message still abide, when the scientists decide That its record of Creation is untrue? Tell us the ascent of man is by evolution's plan; Will its principles the sinful heart renew? When in language wondrous fair, "Christian Scientists" declare That there is no evil, only mortal mind. When mental treatment fails, and seeming death prevails, May we in the Bible consolation find? When infidels parade the mistakes which Moses made, When the truth of Revelation they deny, Will the Ten Commandments still the demands of justice fill? Will its word support us when we come to die? Yes, the Word of God shall stand, though assailed on every hand, Its foundations are eternally secure; It will bear the critic's test, and the idle scoffer's jest, Its saving truth forever shall endure.
2 Timothy 3:14-17, Why is the Bible the word of God? by Matt Slick 1...... 2. We know the Bible is the word of God because it says so. We do not use logic and evidence to prove that the Bible is God's word. otherwise, the Bible is subject to logic and evidence. It is sufficient that God's word testifies of itself. This will not convince unbelievers, but the redeemed know the Bible is the word of God because Holy Spirit who lives in us bears witness to this truth. We are enabled to know the truth of God's word because of the cross of Christ that brings us to a saving relationship with God who then lives in our hearts and reveals truth to us. Christians know and trust God's word because they hear and know the voice of Jesus. CONTINUED HERE: http://carm.org/christianity/sermons/2-timothy-314-17-why-bible-word-god
Again and time again we see the same thing - no answer - I'm not coming at anyone's belief system - your belief is your choice - its not my place - but as one who seeks for the answer it is my place to find an answer just in case I could be doing the wrong thing. The question - can anyone answer it? What proof is there that god himself wrote and said what is proposed in the bible or any book for that matter? If god said it then there must be something which can verify it.
