The Journey (thru titles of my poetry)

I travel the Mississippi
To see the cove where she did start

I saw “Naked Trees” as human beings
In the expansive parks of New York

I waded through the peaceful valleys of “Old Oak Trees”
Where the frost of “Autumn Falls” upon crusty old leaves

I saw the pleasing fruits of erotica in old houses of “Il Repute”
Used enticing metaphors…like, “I Wanna Be With You”

…Just to get my due

I’ve ventured through exotic places
Filled with life’s majestic faces
Nature’s birth
Material gains
I’ve seen the beauty wonder has graced us (with)

Like golden sunsets across milky skies
Happiness…wrapped up in the enticement of lies
Like “I Love You” and “I’ll Always Be True”
But around the next corner, life sings the blues

“From Whence Did Love Come,” the little ones would say
While “Ten Thousand Heartbeats” adorn my everyday
“A Victim of Love” once cried out to me
While seated in the shadows of “An Old Oak Tree”

“Mindless Beauty” isn’t what we strive for
But a beautiful heart will make you cry out for more

“A Somber Moment” burns deep in my soul
Where “The Unchristian(like) Christian” sings high…to swing low

“Does he love me this way, too,” she beckoned to ask
As she wondered if she had found the taste of happiness…at last

“Do You Know Who You Are?” Have you lived the big dream?
Does freedom flow through “Every Vestibule” of your being

“I’ve Been Waiting (a life time)” for this frail heart to heal
To feel “The Many Ways You Make Me Feel”

Now, “My Season Has Come.” One more reason to love
“(It seems like) Ten Thousand Years,” she cried of her love

“I Stand Outside.”
She watched as “He Died”
“I Want To Love You…Like That”
Instead, I cried

“On The Day Of Your Birth,” “My Friend, My Lover”
“You Inspire Me,”
This dark-skinned, ebony-hued brother
In “Rediscovering My (Me)” I’ve found stories to tell
Tales of success…and that, “Sometimes…We Fail”

“What Is Your Legacy?” What will you leave behind
“The Unspoken” truth. The lure of the nine.
“I challenge you” “My Dearest Love”
To heed well “The Call”
Of our Father, above.
Or
Surely
You will fall
