A few of them, like Magic Johnson, are black. Is this cause for celebration, or for condemnation?

Former NBA superstar Earvin “Magic” Johnson is a case in point. With business interests all over the
country, Magic dropped a quarter million dollar campaign donation on Chicago Mayor Rahm
Emanuel, and flew to Chicago to get his picture taken with the mayor on the eve of the elction. Magic's
payback was an $80 million dollar contract managing privatized custodial services in Chicago's Public
Schools, under which he pays those custodial employees, many of them African American far, far less
than they once made as direct employees of the public school system.

This doesn't make Johnson unique. It makes him one of the gang, a very privileged gang indeed. A
recent study by the Sunlight Foundation revealed that corporations get about $760 back from
federal, state and local governments for every buck they donate
to politicians of the two
capitalist parties.

...why single out Magic as if he is some kind of criminal. The 1% is just another statistic that is judged my irrelevant criticism rather than the reality of having and managing that much money. School employees are in or out "by the budget". The school system in my area just had two massive layoffs in the past 5 years. How do you know whether or not they might have more secure long term jobs rather than a couple of thousand more each year?

...The reason that Cities seek to privatize is MONEY...the difference between the City and a private business is that the city is providing "services" based on tax dollars available and a private business is financing that part of the school budget with investment money and possibility of securing tax breaks. I work in an elementary school and I can tell you that that place is filthy...too much needed cleaning not done daily...why?

...If you had $200,000,000 you either find a way to make tax loopholes and create business for profit or pay it all out in taxes, fees and general expenses if you are in business. If you are a private individual, you make make investments, charitable donations, start a help foundation or other non profit.

...Any one with money can spend it unwisely or for only self serving purposes.
