... The tie breaker, for sure, and, the President is about to make history in his re-election journey...

"While there is more work that remains to be done, today's employment report provides further evidence that the U.S. economy is continuing to heal from the wounds inflicted by the worst downturn since the Great Depression," Krueger wrote.

Economy adds 114,000 jobs in September, unemployment drops to 7.8 percent

The economy added 114,000 jobs in September, bringing the unemployment rate down to 7.8 percent, the lowest it's been since January 2009.
August's gains were revised up from 96,000 to 142,000 jobs, helping to bring the official unemployment number down from 8.1 percent.
The number of people participating in the labor force also rose slightly in September, meaning the dip in unemployment wasn't driven by frustrated workers exiting the labor force altogether because they couldn't find a job. Still, 12.1 million Americans are unemployed, and nearly 5 million have been looking for work for more than 27 weeks.

... The President's chess move on Romney Wednesday night, got em foaming at the mouth...

Yet conspiracy theorists came out in force Friday after the government reported a sudden drop in unemployment a month before Election Day — to 7.8 percent for September from 8.1 percent in August.
Their message: The Obama administration would do anything to ensure a November victory, including manipulating unemployment data. Labor Department officials, joined by Democrats and some Republicans, called the charges implausible.

Officials reject conspiracies on unemployment rate

WASHINGTON (AP) — When conspiracists suggested Friday that the Obama administration had engineered a sharp drop in unemployment to aid President Barack Obama's re-election, the response was swift.
Career government officials, economists and even some Mitt Romney supporters issued a collective sigh.
The staffers who compute the U.S. unemployment rate work in an agency of the Labor Department. Officials who have overseen the work say it's prepared under tight security with no White House input or supervision.

... According to Pew Research Center, PRC, the race is tightening in the polls:

But the complete suite of post-debate surveys from national pollsters is only beginning to emerge, and the early indications are of a less dramatic shift than Pew is showing.

Pew: Romney Leads By 4 In Post-Debate Survey
In the first national poll to be conducted entirely after the opening presidential debate, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney now leads President Barack Obama by 4 points.
The poll, conducted by Pew Research Center from Thursday through Sunday and released on Monday, shows Romney leading Obama among likely voters nationwide, 49 percent to 45 percent. That's a stark contrast from Pew's mid-September poll after both parties' conventions, which showed Obama up 8 points among likely voters.
The dramatic 12-point swing in Pew's poll from Obama to Romney is perhaps the strongest piece of evidence to date that the president has paid a political price for his listless performance in the Denver debate.

... Interesting development and headwind for the person that tweeted a BLS, Bureau of Labor Statistics, conspiracy... smh

That's when Welch emailed Reuters' Steve Adler and Fortune managing editor Andy Serwer to say he was done writing for them, Gandel reports. Welch hasn't responded to Fortune's phone calls. Welch's last tweets were on Sunday.

Jack Welch Quits Punditry (For Now)

Former General Electric CEO Jack Welch has quit his punditry gigs -- except for Twitter, of course, which is the one that got him into trouble in the first place.Welch told both Fortune and Reuters that he and his wife Suzy were "terminating our contract," Fortune'sStephen Gandel reports. The decision follows the news organizations' reporting that Welch's conspiracy theory about a cooked jobs report was not supported by facts.

... Here we go again, the VP debate promises to be a cliff-hanger, don't miss it:

At Centre College in Danville, Ky., at 9 p.m. EST, Biden and Ryan will tangle on issues including health care, the national debt and taxes. In other words, things might get wonky. Here's a guide to some of what you might hear, with the spin fact-checked in advance.

The truth behind the numbers: Pre-fact-checking the VP debate

Associated Press - This combo made from file photos shows Vice President Joe Biden, left, and Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan. In some ways, these presidential ticket No. 2s could not be more different. But in other ways, the 42-year-old Republican congressman and 69-year-old Democratic vice president are very much alike. Last week's presidential debate impacted the race more than most voters expected. After his lackluster performance, President Barack Obama's lead has shrunk and Mitt Romney's campaign has been reinvigorated.
So, Thursday night's debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan matters more than most debates between potential vice presidents past. While Biden has a chance to do some damage control and stall the Romney-Ryan surge, Ryan will press for further gains.
