Black People : Police Militarization Historically Used to Quell Black Rebellion

Ford says that the police were militarized in the 1960's. Only in Mississippi during Freedom Summer in 1963(?) were the police militarized.... and then by the state of Mississippi, NOT the federal government. That is the discussion today - the Feds giving military weaponry and equipment to police departments across the entire U.S.

He and I agree that with Ferguson, there's something "different" in the air. I've said it before and obviously, I wasn't the only one feeling it.

Still, he was incorrect about police departments, nation-wide, receiving military weaponry and equipment from the Johnson administration. This program was started in 2006 under Bush whereby the Pentagon began transferring more than $4 billion worth of surplus military equipment to local and state agencies, including tanks, drones, mine-resistant vehicles, and battering rams.
