Yeah, and to use that as an excuse..., then no one should claim that they 'we' are the "original hebrews" or some
"lost tribe of shabazz". Whatever the case, as a people, we are trying to find ourselves. The effort is honorable, just and need no apology. What we are exposed to/witnessing is the residual affect which comes with being ripped from ones culture/history/identity. I give us props, because one thing is certain; something in us is, or trying to, compel
us to fight/repel a 'reality' of us that isn't ours. How long is our road to recovery, I'm not sure. But the evidence that we are moving down that road is obvious and encouraging.

Do you have any links you could share that prove the "overwheming majority" of Africans in America come from the areas you mentioned? I'm not doubting you but the information I have read suggest that the majority came from the areas now know as Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal/Gambia and Sierra Leone. In the case of Senegal and Ghana the castles the slaves were put in are still standing. I have read that many came from Congo too but Africans enslaved in Angola often ended up in Brazil. I am always open to new information that will expand my knowledge on these types of issues. :)

Different aspects of african culture survived out of need...

To what degree here in the states has always been a hoted disputed subject..

Elsewhere in the Americas: It's been a proving fact...

So perhaps some feel and think they need to embrace other african cultural survivals because their own have been forgotten or lost...

And I consider your comments a little odd, wehn you remember that white slaverholders resistance to anything that would lead to their holding on to their dignitiy...

    Of course some did anyway!

Let us reflect more on that too!

    FYI...

North America is a big place: Or are you writing/talking specifically of the black population of the USA...? At this point: To many, the terrm 'African American' isn't one they associate themselves with...FYI...

It's probably because we are still throwing the darts at the wall and guessing at best. The two trains of thought above are the most popular cultures represented in this country i.e they are the ones whom are allowed to come to america. There is a large eitheropian contingency however i dont recall to many brothers claiming to be either opian at all. Hetep
