White folk ill-prepare us for collegiate studies. But we have the best minds in the world. We have more focus to becoming a 'doctor,' 'nurse,' 'astronaut' or 'lawyer' than any other people. We just need to remember.

    HBCUs are memorials.

Calm down. Being an emotional wreck won't help your argument.

How does "white privilege" determine how much alumni engage students?

And black folks can't network? Statistics shows people are more likely to hire those that look like them. How hard is it for somebody in the Career Services department at an HBCU to contact at least some of the firms on the Black Enterprise Top 100? They certainly have no problem calling the white-owned Fortune 500.

You obviously have select reading. I definitely said "mostly full of no-names." In terms of historical and current prominence, the AUC definitely leaves GSU in the dirt.

Let's be clear: This thread is about student-alumni engagement. And the fact of the matter is, HBCUs don't do it well (and in many cases, not at all).

*sigh* I am not "emotional," much less a "wreck" of any kind.

How do YOU know with any certainty that HBCU alumni do NOT engage students?---Across this country, there are HBCU alumni associations and alliances which do engage students. --For example: the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance, the Birmingham HBCU Alliance, the South Florida HBCU Alumni Alliance, and many more grouped by college/city/or region which assist HBCU students with career placement.

I see you believe in "STATISTICS;" but the REALITY is that there are far more WHITE owned/controlled companies than Black. Therefore, the MAJORITY of our HBCU graduates will be, largely, seeking employment within WHITE companies.

Yes, Black people DO "network." On some level/degree/or capacity, we have always sought to FIGHT and CIRCUMVENT the "GOOD OL' BOY systems" and "WHITE PRIVILEGES" we see on our jobs EVERYDAY. --My first professional job was attained because another BLACK person, an HBCU alumna from a DIFFERENT college, spoke for/recommended me; but my EMPLOYER was WHITE.

However, largely, because of fewer resources, we have been striving to CATCH UP with WHITE America in the "NETWORKING" device. They have HUNDREDS of years AHEAD OF US via the "GOOD OL' BOY system" and WHITE PRIVILEGE.

How do YOU know with any certainty that Black Enterprise and its Top 100 do NOT employ HBCU graduates?

How many of GSU's African American graduates does its Career Services Dept. or its "mostly no-names" ALUMNI place with BLACK OWNED companies?

Moreover, how many of GSU's African American graduates does its Career Service Dept. or "mostly no-names" ALUMNI place with FORTUNE 500 companies?

There are 105 HBCUs and 10 are in Georgia. GSU is 1 of 35 colleges under the Univ. System of Georgia. ---and only 3 HBCUs are under the auspices of the Univ. System of GA.

I assure you, the "mostly no-names" at HBCUs greatly outnumber the "mostly no-names" at GSU and throughout the Univ. System of GA.

I assure you that the OTHER WHITE alumni of GSU and the OTHER WHITE alumni of the Univ. System of GA is full of KNOWN NAMES and OLD MONEY.

Surely, you are not comparing the ENTIRE (mostly WHITE) Univ. System of GA comprised of 35 colleges to the AUC comprised of 3 HBCUs: Clark-Atlanta, Morehouse, Spelman (and sometimes Morris Brown w/Accreditation) ---And only THREE HBCUs are under the Univ. System of GA: Savannah State, Albany State, and Ft. Valley. (I think Alcorn St. may also be.) http://www.usg.edu/inst/

Moreover, our HBCU alumni are "mostly full of no names" and we don't have FOUNDATIONS and TRUSTS and GENERATIONAL monies to draw from.
