    Dambe is a type of boxing that found its traditional application in Western Africa and has survived to modern day.
    Butchers’ Guilds


    Hundreds of years ago in Nigeria, butchers had a special ritualistic role. They were the only individuals with permission to slaughter animals. Butchers would team up in groups and call themselves “armies”, moving from village to village culling cattle for meat. These competitions would take place during harvest.
