Black Short Stories : Let's Write A Story.. Together..

"I looked at Grandma's old hands.. her old face, old eyes and I watched as she
took her old old love and applied it to every place in me that hurt.. and in her
magical mystical way, she filled every reservoir.. quelled every conflict and
calmed every part of me that had been confused and restless.. and she did it
all without a single question or confession.. Her love existed beyond such
details. I sat in her kitchen and picked green beans and listened to her
stories about Alabama and the people she liked and despised.. and the man
that she loved, my Grandfather. "He walked like he was going somewhere, "she said,
"like he was somebody.. even though none of us was nobody, while we was down there,"
she went on, "and we was really nothing.. just less than nothing..
them white folks woulda kept the very Sun from shining on us if
they could've.. didn't want black people to have nothing, not even a smile or
a breeze."

She finished her sentence then clicked the "submit reply" button to post the half-written
journal entry to her Blog. She wanted to be on the road before 7, it was time
to stop running, it was time to do what she knew she had to...

Mysteriously, ten years had gone by. Jonathan was a young man now in his teens. Janiah moved on with proceeding in her writing career, something she had put off when she got with Jaye but now, she was on her way to becoming not just a published Blogger and published author but also to become an English teacher. She loved to teach and because she had a passion for writing, she figured she could teach high school students how to do the same, love to write that is. While Janiah was finishing up her bachelors degree in English, Jonathan was going back and forth between Janiah, Jaye and grandma. During this time, Jonathan developed a loving and understanding relationship with his father. Janiah and Jaye never really took out the time to talk to each other outside of Jonathan, other than that, they would keep conversation to a minimum.

Today was the day to exchange Jonathan and Janiah was giving Jonathan a call on his cell phone. Standing out in front of his school on Mare Dr. he answered the phone, from the caller ID, he could see that it was his mother. "What's up Mah" he said. "Hi baby, how was school?" she asked. "School was good Mah, I hope you are not on your way because daddy is on his way to pick me up" he responded. She didn't like what Jonathan had just said because she had planned all day to see Jonathan when she got off work. Today was the first time in a long time that she was relieved from work early and she had not spent any quality time with Jonathan for a few days now but in her mind, Jaye was Jonathans father and it wasn't like he was going to hang out with friends. "Well, I was on my way but I guess your father can pick you up, I wanted to see you before I went to this meeting but I guess we can see each other later on tonight" "Okay mah, love you, talk to you later" "I love you to son" and she closed the flip on her phone. After getting off the phone with Janiah, Jonathan dialed his fathers number, his father answered. "Hey son, you on you way over here, or are you going to hang out with your friends after school today?" he asked. "Ah yeah dad, I'm gonna hand out with Chris, the one who lives down the street, I will be home by 9pm tonight" "See you later son, be safe and stay out of trouble"
