Is Obama Black, White, Both or Neither?

A perplexing new chapter is unfolding in Barack Obama's racial saga: Many people insist that "the first black president" is actually not black.

Debate over whether to call this son of a white Kansan and a black Kenyan biracial, African-American, mixed-race, half-and-half, multiracial — or, in Obama's own words, a "mutt" — has reached a crescendo since Obama's election shattered assumptions about race.

Both? Then most African-Americans must be "White" also.

Of course he is a "Black" man. There is only one other possibility here. He might be "Mixed". But it is hard to figure out whether or not this cultural group exists. "Mixed" people are hard to read here. I know "Mixed" folks with African heritage who are insulted when referred to as "Black" or part-"Black". So I steer clear of using any ethnic definitions for them. But then I have met "Black" folks with white skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair. And they don't want to be anything but "Black".

Only recently did I work with a receptionist who looked anything but "Black". But to hear her speak was a joy.

Historically, he would have been Mulatto, nothing else. however, for some reason the term Mulatto is not being used like it used to. Historically because of racism, Mulatto people have been grouped with black people cause whites didn't want anything to do with what they deemed as tainted. White was considered pure, and if one was not pure white, he was black. One spec of black blood meant tainted.

However, if we are going to believe that we all came from Africa, that would mean that there is nothing mixed or Mulatto about Obama. In fact, when you look at him, he looks like a brown full Eastern African. If we didn't know that Obamas mother was white, we would think both of his parents are black.
