In Africa our people dealt with this issue before. There was polygamy and polyandry going on. There were cases where women out numbered men and where men out numbered women. Where women were out numbered, we practiced polyandry. Where men were out numbered, we practiced polygamy. History will reveal that this present concept of "one man, one woman" is fairly new in terms of time and history....oh, religion also, although our greatest spiritual icons had many wives. Surely they were an example, were they not? Or did God just let them have some wives cause they were good?

We are not being realistic at all. we are in fact more idealistic than realistic.

I agree... this is why I do not look down or disagree with polygamy/polyandry.

However, it cannot be denied from any type of mindset that African Americans, are associated with an American culture which promotes the 'nuclear' family. African cultures obviously prove that polygamy can work, but at this present day in time is the average African American 'connected' enough with their original heritage to not only consider this option but actually implement it in real life? Are those that feel they are perhaps more 'connected' than others willing to implement this right now in real life? Are their spouses?

Nothing is impossible... I do not believe that we are doomed. I believe it is possible that we can be so connected to our original heritage that not only would we do that, but we would find a way to do it within the legal structure of the American justice system (establish a roommate type of situation instead of going for a 'legal' marriage). But... are we ready right now, and how do we get ready... real life solutions?

Until then... I personally cannot add anything further except maybe online dating... (but that just puts things in a different areana and doesn't actually address the numbers). The only other thing I can say is that be careful not to judge those that may use this as reasoning for why they may have considered options that some here may find unacceptable, at least if it appears that they are trying to establish some connection with their original heritage in areanas such as this. Please also consider the possible responses to the questions I have posed when forming your opinion on these individuals. There are some lifestyle choices that result in things that can't be changed... so it's best to accept the person as they are or are trying to be today, even if one feels they made a 'self-hating' choice.
